How do oysters make pearls?

When a foreign substance such as sand from the outside enters the oyster shell, the oyster will regard it as a threat. This external contaminant can damage the internal organs of the oyster and cause death. Thus, as a natural response, the oyster will produce a kind of layer made from calcium carbonate to isolate the foreign substance from damaging its internal organs. Over time, this layer will become thicker and it will cover the impurities while forming a pearl.
